Posted in : News

(added last year!)

In the wake of the blasphemy controversy and the Facebook ban in Pakistan and Bangladesh, many Muslims set out en masse to discover new social networking websites such as MillatFacebook and Sal.am to fulfill their online needs. Some of these websites turned out to be Facebook clones, while others were just plain useless.

Returning to Orkut: a surreal experience

While many local users resorted to using proxies to access Facebook, I opted to return to my original stalking grounds, Orkut. A short background For those who may have missed the craze in 2004-05, Orkut was an invite only website with a personalized profile where you have all your friends, pictures, testimonials in one place; a strong community-based system where discussions can take place based on the purpose of the community.

Posted in : Gossips

(added last year!)

I just had a look over what was happening with Google’s Orkut which was one of the most popular social networks in India and Brazil. It seems like things have changed and it has lost its majority user base to the largest social network  Facebook.According to Alexa  Orkut is almost dead as compared to it was an year back. It has lost a massive number of users who previously used to keep visiting the website after every few minutes.

But still they are in the game, the website still receives millions of pageviews every day which is enormous and it is still one of the top rankings websites in the world. Also we have not seen Google placing more importance over its social network.

Orkut, Facebook, Twitter from Train will soon be Reality

Posted in : News

(added last year!)

Staying connected while travelling on train may soon be a reality. The Passenger Amenities Committee of Indian railways is mulling over various solutions for infotainment on board, amongst which is a touch-screen based computer unit that would allow you to access social networking sites, shopping sites etc. It is not yet clear whether this would be a pure browser based .

The service could be available in flagship trains like Shatabdi Express with shorter daytime journey, having mostly business-class passengers. The computer units could be placed behind the seats much like what we have in aircraft, which could also double up as a movie screen. The touch screen would also allow you to order your meals and access on-train freight capacity auction site in real time. Research Design and Standards Organisation is working on this and a few more things so expect a lot more from Indian Railways in coming days.

And in a typical reaction higher ups in health department believed that by transferring and then terminating Ranpariya the issue could be tackled. But Ranpariya decided to spread his message and to support him he has around 350 members in his community who regularly visit his Orkut page.
